Scottish Marine Recovery Fund Consultation Reveals Diverse Perspectives on Offshore Wind Impact
The Scottish Marine Recovery Fund (MRF) aims to offset environmental damage from offshore wind farms while maximizing benefits for Scotland's marine ecosystems. A consultation held from August 19 to September 30, 2025, received 26 responses from various stakeholders, including the offshore wind sector, environmental NGOs, and the public.
Key themes included the need for better transparency in the consultation process, the potential co-benefits of the MRF, and the importance of coordination between the Scottish and UK governments. Respondents called for clear fee structures and debated the timing and management of compensation payments.
There was support for an independent Scottish MRF but concerns about managing cross-border species. The feedback will inform the final design of the MRF, which is expected to launch after relevant legislation is passed.
