ScottishPower Criticizes UK Offshore Wind Auction Results, Highlights Project Readiness
ScottishPower's Keith Anderson expressed frustration over the company's loss in the recent UK offshore wind auction, where RWE secured contracts despite having less mature projects. ScottishPower's 800MW East Anglia One North was shovel-ready, contrasting with RWE's awarded projects, some lacking planning consent. Anderson criticized changes to the auction process that allowed speculative bidding and emphasized the potential delays in the UK supply chain.

ScottishPower, a subsidiary of Iberdrola, missed out on the UK's recent offshore wind auction (AR7), where RWE secured government-backed Contracts for Difference (CfD) for five projects, some without planning consent. ScottishPower's 800MW East Anglia One North project was shovel-ready, while RWE's contracts are for less mature projects expected to be built by 2031-32.
Two awarded projects, phases of RWE's Dogger Bank South, have not obtained planning consent, with decisions delayed until April 30. Keith Anderson criticized the auction's speculative bidding process and its implications for project delivery.
