Scout Motors Learns Demand for Gas Engines Over Electric in Upcoming Truck and SUV Launch

GAS TURBINES & ENGINES

Scout Motors, backed by VW, has revealed through internal data that consumers prefer gas engines over electric for its upcoming Terra Truck and Terrain SUV. Initially planned as fully electric, the company is now offering an extended range version with a liquid-fuel generator.

Current market trends indicate a significant lack of interest in electric vehicles, with only 6% of new vehicle buyers opting for battery-electric vehicles in the last quarter. Major automakers like GM and Ford are shifting back to gas-powered models, while Scout's reservation data shows over 80% of 130,000 sign-ups are for the range extender.

Industry analysts suggest that introducing additional powertrain options, such as a V8 or hybrid engine, could significantly increase Scout's market potential. As it stands, Scout is entering a decreasing segment of roughly 100,000 EV truck and SUV buyers amidst a strong preference for traditional powertrains.
