Sebewaing River Levee Repair Project Initiated with $15 Million Federal Funding
A $15 million project to repair the Sebewaing River's south levee is underway, funded entirely by federal sources. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers oversees the construction, aimed at maintaining flood protection for the village and surrounding areas.
Construction has commenced on the Sebewaing River levee repair project, with a budget of approximately $15 million funded through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is managing the replacement of deteriorating earthen levees with anchored steel sheet piling along the south bank from Center Street to the railroad bridge.
The project includes the installation of 1,500 linear feet of sheet piling, as well as tree removal and grading. Completion is anticipated later this year, potentially extending into the next season depending on weather. Limited noise impacts are expected for residents during construction.
