Sedgwick County Delays Decision on 1,500-Acre Solar Project
The Wichita-Sedgwick County Metropolitan Area Planning Commission has postponed a decision on the Galena Solar Project until June 11. This delay follows public concerns regarding environmental impact, property value, and financial projections for the solar and battery storage systems.

The Wichita-Sedgwick County Metropolitan Area Planning Commission has deferred its decision on Mission Clean Energy's proposed solar project until June 11. The project involves the installation of approximately 600,000 solar panels and a battery system across 1,490 acres southwest of Wichita, with a projected lifespan of over 40 years and an anticipated tax revenue of $79-129 million.
Public feedback has been mixed, with many voicing environmental concerns and questions about property taxes and decommissioning plans. A one-year moratorium on battery energy storage systems was enacted on March 11, but applications submitted prior to that date, including this one, are still under review. The planning commission seeks additional information on the project's economic impact and the necessary equipment tax exemptions.
