Sembcorp Acquires Alinta Energy for US$4.32 Billion, Expanding Renewable Capacity in Australia
Sembcorp's US$4.32 billion acquisition of Alinta Energy adds 10.4GW of renewable project development, enhancing its Australian energy footprint. This strategic move accelerates the company's goal to boost global renewable capacity to 25GW by 2028.

Sembcorp Industries has finalized the acquisition of Alinta Energy for AU$6.5 billion (US$4.32 billion), enhancing its renewable energy presence in Australia. The deal, announced in December 2025 and approved by regulatory bodies, integrates Alinta into Sembcorp's 'Renewables East' division, which is managed by Alex Tan.
The acquisition provides Sembcorp with access to Alinta's 10.4GW project pipeline and 3.4GW existing capacity across coal, gas, wind, and solar technologies. Future projects include a 250MW battery storage system in South Australia and a 900MW pumped hydro project in New South Wales. Sembcorp's long-term strategy aims for a global renewable capacity of 25GW by 2028, with significant investments planned in Australia.
