Semcorp Abandons Acquisition Plan, Shifts Focus to Factory Expansion with CNY4 Billion Investment
Yunnan Energy New Material, known as Semcorp, has scrapped its acquisition of Zhongkehualian due to term disagreements and will invest CNY4 billion to expand production capacity. This strategic shift is significant as it reflects a growing focus on enhancing manufacturing capabilities amidst a competitive lithium battery separator market.

Yunnan Energy New Material, or Semcorp, has decided not to pursue its acquisition of Zhongkehualian, citing unresolved key terms. Instead, the company will invest CNY4 billion to construct a separator factory in Zigong, Sichuan, targeting an annual capacity of five billion square meters.
Semcorp will hold a 67% stake in this joint venture. Despite the acquisition's cancellation, Semcorp has shown strong financial recovery, with net profits rising to CNY260 million in Q1 2026. The lithium battery separator market is evolving, with demand for battery applications steadily increasing, which may bolster Semcorp's market share and profitability.
