Senelec Launches 23 Billion FCFA Battery Storage Project in Senegal
Senelec initiates a battery energy storage system (BESS) project costing over 23 billion FCFA to enhance solar energy reliability. This initiative, funded by Germany and France, aims to stabilize the national electrical grid and support Senegal's energy independence.

Senelec's new project involves a battery energy storage system (BESS) linked to the Diass solar plant, with a budget exceeding 23 billion FCFA (36 million euros). It will include 30 BESS containers and 360 converter units, achieving an annual capacity of over 20,000 MWh.
The funding comes from Germany's KfW and France's AFD, aimed at improving the reliability of electricity supply in Senegal. This initiative is strategically aligned with Senegal's energy transition, decreasing reliance on fossil fuels and addressing rising electricity demand. The project positions Senegal as an energy innovation leader in West Africa.
