Settlement Reached to Continue Operations at Green River Reservoir Hydroelectric Facility in Vermont
Morrisville Water & Light, the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources, and environmental groups have reached a settlement to keep the Green River Reservoir hydroelectric facility operational. The agreement resolves decommissioning requests and establishes a compliance schedule for water quality and recreational flow standards. The settlement aims to support the new Federal Energy Regulatory Commission license and includes commitments to improve river health and protect aquatic habitats.

A settlement agreement has been reached involving Morrisville Water & Light (MWL), the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources (ANR), and environmental organizations to maintain operations at the Green River Reservoir hydroelectric facility. MWL will withdraw its request to decommission the facility and will seek a new Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) license.
The agreement includes timelines for protective in-river flows, limited drawdowns, and public processes for reviewing water quality standards by January 1, 2029. This settlement aims to balance hydroelectric generation, water quality, and recreational opportunities in Vermont.
