The Sheboygan City Plan Commission will discuss the zoning code after community concerns were raised at a Jan. 5 Common Council meeting. Proposed changes include stricter data center regulations, additional dwelling units, and legalizing solar power.
Mayor Ryan Sorenson referred the zoning code back to the commission for further review, stating the need for collaboration with residents. Community feedback highlighted issues such as transparency and oversight, particularly regarding the role of the city administrator as zoning administrator.
The Common Council's approval to move sections about the Plan Commission to Chapter 2 was vetoed by Sorenson, who emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach. The Plan Commission will reconvene in several weeks to address the feedback and refine the proposed regulations.
