Shelbyville Council Approves 400+ Acre Annexation for Potential Data Center Development
The Shelbyville Common Council approved a 400-acre annexation for potential data center development, with a vote of 5-1. While the annexation was supported by local property owners and is linked to a prospective buyer, Prologis, concerns were raised by residents regarding farmland loss and infrastructure impacts. The proposal will advance to the Shelbyville Plan Commission for a public hearing scheduled for January 7.

The Shelbyville Common Council voted 5-1 to approve a voluntary annexation of over 400 acres east of the I-74-State Road 44 interchange, linked to a potential data center development. Mayor Scott Furgeson and attorney Eric Glasco emphasized that the vote was strictly for annexation and zoning, not for a specific data center project.
The annexation was backed by all affected property owners. Prologis, the prospective buyer, detailed plans for the site, estimating a data center could reach 500 megawatts, employing approximately 450 full-time workers.
The project, which could take up to 10 years to complete, promises an estimated $45 million in annual payroll. Residents voiced concerns over farmland loss and infrastructure impacts. The annexation will proceed to the Shelbyville Plan Commission for further public hearing on January 7.
