Shelbyville Council Delays Annexation Request for Data Center Amid Environmental Concerns
The Shelbyville Common Council voted to table an annexation and rezoning request for over 400 acres east of the I-74-State Road 44 interchange, delaying action for 30 days until the February meeting. This decision follows an unfavorable recommendation from the Plan Commission.
Councilwoman Betsy Means-Davis advocated for an independent environmental study and development of data center-specific ordinances. Prologis, the developer, has an option to purchase approximately 140 acres already annexed and zoned.
Residents expressed concerns regarding water use, noise, and property values during a 30-minute public comment session. The matter is set for further consideration on February 18. Additionally, the Shelby County Plan Commission will review several petitions on January 27 and traffic signal installations have been approved at State Road 9 and 29 rail crossings.
