Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rheinland Hosts Topping-Out Ceremony for 100 MW Hydrogen Plant
The Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rheinland held a topping-out ceremony for a 100 MW hydrogen electrolyzer, with operations set to begin in 2027. The project, involving partners like ITM Power and Linde, aims to produce up to 16,000 tons of renewable hydrogen annually, contingent on renewable energy availability. This initiative is part of Shell's broader commitment to climate-friendly processes and net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050, supported by the EU's Horizon 2020 program.

The Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rheinland celebrated the topping-out of a 100 MW hydrogen electrolyzer, expected to commence operations in 2027. This facility will produce up to 16,000 tons of renewable hydrogen annually, depending on renewable energy supply.
The project is a collaboration among ITM Power, Linde, and others, and is part of Shell's strategy to achieve net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050. The initiative is supported by the EU's Horizon 2020 program and aims to enhance sustainability and competitiveness in the chemical industry. It complements existing efforts, including a 10 MW pilot plant and plans for a bio-LNG facility.
