Shell Energy Europe Secures Renewable Power for Hydrogen Electrolyser in Germany
Shell Energy Europe has signed two power purchase agreements to secure renewable energy for a hydrogen electrolyser project in Germany, funded by the REFHYNE II initiative. The agreements with Nordsee One and Solarkraftwerk Halenbeck-Rohlsdorf will enable the electrolyser at the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rheinland to produce up to 44 tonnes of renewable hydrogen daily, aimed at decarbonizing operations by 2027.

Shell Energy Europe Limited has secured renewable electricity through two power purchase agreements (PPAs) in Germany for a hydrogen electrolyser funded by the REFHYNE II project. The first PPA with Nordsee One involves offtaking one third of the output from a 332 MW wind farm in the North Sea, while the second PPA with Solarkraftwerk Halenbeck-Rohlsdorf allows Shell to utilize 75% of the power from a 230 MW solar project.
The hydrogen electrolyser at the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rheinland aims to produce up to 44 tonnes of renewable hydrogen daily, with operations expected to commence in 2027. The project aims to decarbonize energy products across Europe.
