Shoalhaven Council Launches $38 Million Materials Recovery Facility in West Nowra

CIRCULAR ECONOMY & RECYCLING

Shoalhaven Council inaugurated a $38 million Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in West Nowra, capable of processing 15 tonnes per hour with an annual capacity of 24,720 tonnes. The MRF is designed to handle the 12,000 tonnes of recyclables generated annually in the region and aims to provide services to neighboring councils.

Bega Valley Shire Council has already committed to using the facility for its recyclables, with ongoing discussions with Kiama and Eurobodalla councils. The MRF will start operations in April with eight full-time staff and potential for expansion to 24/7 operations based on demand. The facility also features advanced fire suppression systems and plans to process various materials, including old tyres.
