Siemens Energy Targets Electricity System Rebuilding in Iraq and Syria

HYDROGEN

Siemens Energy is set to play a significant role in rebuilding electricity systems in Iraq and Syria. Syria's electricity generation is currently less than 20% of pre-war levels, with much of its infrastructure destroyed.

Siemens aims to collaborate on adding 14GW of capacity in Iraq, where it already has 11.65GW installed. The company has 117GW of total capacity across the Middle East, with Saudi Arabia accounting for 33GW.

Ongoing discussions in the UAE may lead to future projects. Siemens is also developing turbines for hydrogen, despite delays in hydrogen project timelines due to immediate grid needs. The International Renewable Energy Agency emphasizes the urgent need to modernize grids to support renewable energy.
