Siemens Launches Microgrid at Wendell HQ for Energy Independence
Siemens has launched a 1.25-megawatt AC microgrid at its Wendell facility, enabling independent power during outages. This system is expected to enhance energy reliability and reduce carbon emissions significantly.
Siemens has introduced a 1.25-megawatt AC microgrid at its Wendell headquarters, capable of operating independently from the grid using solar and battery storage. The microgrid integrates a solar carport array and a 3.9-megawatt-hour battery system, designed to manage power generation and usage in real-time.
The facility can also disconnect from the grid and operate in 'island mode' during outages, ensuring continued production. The microgrid is projected to cut grid energy consumption by approximately 2.5 megawatt-hours yearly and eliminate around 800 tons of CO2 emissions.
The project includes 42 EV chargers and supports energy resilience training initiatives. This development aligns with the increasing electricity demands faced by utilities and manufacturers.
