Significant Lithium Deposits Discovered in South Korea by KIGAM
The Korea Institute of Geology, Mining, and Materials (KIGAM) has confirmed lithium deposits in South Korea, marking a crucial step towards local resource development. This discovery may influence the country's strategy to reduce reliance on lithium imports.

KIGAM announced the discovery of lithium deposits in Uljin, North Gyeongsang Province, and Danyang, North Chungcheong Province, the first confirmation of lithium presence in South Korea. The findings were presented following a three-year investigation of 12 sites, revealing lithium grades of 0.3 to 1.5 percent in Uljin and 0.01 to 0.5 percent in Danyang.
However, the Danyang deposits do not meet China's minimum development threshold of 0.02 percent lithium oxide. Development prospects are uncertain due to low lithium content, challenging drilling conditions, and the fact that local companies hold mining rights to these deposits.
