The B.C. government and Simpcw First Nation are negotiating a consent decision-making agreement for the Yellowhead Copper Mine project, supported by Taseko Mines. The proposed open-pit mine near Vavenby could generate up to 180 million pounds of copper annually, with 2,000 jobs during construction and 600 permanent jobs for its 25-year operation.
The agreement aims to provide regulatory clarity and ensure efficient assessments by the EAO and Simpcw. The collaboration will recognize Simpcw's rights and responsibilities as land stewards, requiring Simpcw's consent for the mine to proceed, and includes consultations with potentially affected First Nations.
