Singapore Increases 2030 Solar Deployment Target to 3 GW Following 2 GW Achievement
Singapore has raised its 2030 solar target to 3 GW, increasing it by 1 GW after exceeding the original 2 GW goal in 2025. The Energy Market Authority (EMA) will expand solar deployment on rooftops, land, and water, promoting innovations like solar canopies. Current solar capacity is largely from rooftops, supported by initiatives such as SolarNova. Despite this, solar is projected to contribute only 10% of Singapore's energy needs by 2050, as the country relies heavily on natural gas. The government is also exploring low-carbon energy pathways.

Singapore's Energy Market Authority (EMA) has raised the 2030 solar target from 2 GW to 3 GW after surpassing the original goal in 2025. The initiative aims to increase solar deployment on rooftops, land, and water, with over 80% of current capacity from rooftop installations.
Government programs like SolarNova support this growth. Although solar is expected to contribute only 10% of energy needs by 2050, the government is exploring additional energy pathways, including low-carbon gas-fired plants and electricity imports. Recent projects include developing a solar panel industry in Indonesia and a hydropower import project from Malaysia.
