Singapore Reuse Coalition Launches to Enhance Circular Economy Initiatives
The Singapore Reuse Coalition has been established to promote systems for return, refill, repair, and repurposing in response to rising waste and economic challenges. This initiative aims to strengthen resource efficiency and combat the escalating costs of packaging, emphasizing reuse as a vital component of a sustainable waste management strategy.

The Singapore Reuse Coalition has launched to facilitate the reuse economy in response to increasing waste generation and rising packaging costs. Founding members include leaders from various sustainability-focused companies and organizations.
The coalition is developing a white paper to address structural gaps in Singapore's reuse economy. Reuse systems globally have received only 4% of circular economy investment for plastics from 2018 to 2023, highlighting the need for increased focus on reuse over recycling.
The coalition's formation follows a call from MP Poh Li San for enhanced measures against single-use plastics. Adoption of reuse in Singapore faces challenges from consumer habits and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on reusable initiatives. Stronger incentives, such as publicly accessible refill station maps, are suggested to boost consumer participation.
