SKZ Plastics Center Develops Continuous Recycling Process for Silicone Elastomers with Industry Partners
The SKZ Plastics Center is collaborating with ENTEX Rust & Mitschke GmbH, Mercodor GmbH, and Wacker Chemie AG to develop a continuous recycling process for silicone elastomers via depolymerization in a planetary roller extruder. This project aims to conserve resources and reduce the energy-intensive production of virgin monomers, contributing to the European Union's goal of climate neutrality by 2050. The project is funded by the German government's 8th Energy Research Program from August 1, 2025, to July 31, 2028.

The SKZ Plastics Center, in partnership with ENTEX Rust & Mitschke GmbH, Mercodor GmbH, and Wacker Chemie AG, is developing a continuous recycling process for silicone elastomers using depolymerization in a planetary roller extruder. This new method aims to convert silicone waste into directly processable monomers for synthesizing new silicones, thereby reducing reliance on virgin materials.
Funded by the German government's 8th Energy Research Program, the project runs from August 1, 2025, to July 31, 2028. It supports the EU's European Green Deal goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050 through resource savings and circular economy practices.
