The SM Group has been recognized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for its waste management and plastic recovery initiatives. The group’s efforts, which support the Extended Producer Responsibility Program under Republic Act 11898, include partnerships for waste processing, installation of labeled bins for recycling, and programs like Trash-to-Cash. Notably, SM Markets sold 20.8 million eco-bags in 2025, avoiding approximately 31.2 million single-use plastic bags.
