SMA Altenso Expands Off-Grid and Utility-Scale Solar and Battery Solutions in Sub-Saharan Africa
SMA Altenso is enhancing its operations in Sub-Saharan Africa, focusing on off-grid solar and battery solutions. The company highlights successful projects including a 500 kVA solar system at a remote Australian orange farm and a 228 MW battery storage project in Chile's Atacama desert, which will bolster local energy infrastructure. SMA Altenso aims to integrate solar and storage technologies to support agricultural operations and stabilize national grids as renewable energy demand increases in Africa.

SMA Altenso is advancing its presence in Sub-Saharan Africa with a focus on off-grid solar and battery solutions. A significant project includes a 500 kVA solar system at a large-scale orange farm in Australia, which has reduced diesel consumption by over 95%.
In Chile, a new 228 MW battery storage system is being constructed alongside the 220 MW Diego de Almagro Sur PV power plant, utilizing SMA technology. This facility will provide dispatchable solar power and enhance grid resilience. Altenso Africa plans to offer full system integration and prioritize battery storage deployment to address rising electricity demand and grid instability across the continent.
