SmartD Technologies Secures CA$15M Funding for Innovative SiC-Based Drives
SmartD Technologies has raised CA$15 million to enhance its SiC-based variable-speed drive technology. This funding aims to support the scaling of its filter-free systems, which have shown a 40% reduction in energy use, catering to growing industrial demand for efficient drive solutions.

Montreal-based SmartD Technologies has successfully secured CA$15 million in funding to advance its silicon carbide (SiC) variable-speed drive (VSD) technology. This latest investment follows a CA$14.2 million funding round in 2024, indicating strong investor confidence, including participation from Hammond Power Solutions and Desjardins Capital.
The company's Clean Power technology enables filter-free drive systems that comply with IEEE 519 standards, cutting energy losses and extending equipment lifespan. SmartD aims to capitalize on its momentum in sectors such as water infrastructure and data centers, emphasizing the drives' potential to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs.
The shift towards multilevel inverter (MLI) technology may offer significant advantages in terms of cost savings and performance. As the market demands cleaner power solutions, SmartD's innovations could redefine industry standards.
