SMDO Launches Campaign to Reduce Waste Sorting Errors in Oise
STRATEGIC MINERALS
The Syndicat Mixte du département de l'Oise (SMDO) reports that 26.5% of waste in yellow bins consists of sorting errors. In response, it has launched an awareness campaign for households to reduce these mistakes.
Common errors include disposing of household waste, batteries, single-use textiles, and other non-packaging items in yellow bins. Incorrect disposal contaminates recyclable materials and poses safety risks to waste collection teams, including fire hazards from lithium batteries. The SMDO manages waste for over 790,000 residents and encourages proper disposal methods to mitigate sorting errors and associated costs.
