SMEC Automation Partners with VARD Electro for Next-Gen SOVs in India
SMEC Automation has formed a strategic partnership with VARD Electro (India) to enhance the Indian shipbuilding sector by delivering integrated electrical solutions for Service Operation Vessels (SOVs). This collaboration aims to meet the growing global demand for emission-compliant vessels, particularly in the European offshore wind market.

SMEC Automation Pvt. Ltd. has entered a strategic agreement with VARD Electro (India) to support the delivery of integrated electrical systems for newbuild vessels in India. This partnership will focus on integrating advanced Electric Propulsion systems into two Service Operation Vessels (SOVs) under construction at Cochin Shipyard Ltd., aimed at the European offshore wind sector.
The global electric ship market is expected to reach USD 18.39 billion by 2032, driven by demand for emission-compliant vessels. The collaboration enhances India's Harit Nauka initiative and aligns with rigorous IMO decarbonization mandates, positioning Indian shipyards competitively in the global market.
