HYDROGEN

Snam is investing €200m ($232m) in the Italian H2 Backbone, a 1,920km hydrogen pipeline network, within its 2026-2030 Strategic Plan. This initiative is integral to the SoutH2 Corridor, which links North African green hydrogen to Germany, Austria, and Italy.

The project will repurpose 70% of existing gas pipelines, enhancing cost efficiency. Development phases include planning and co-funding until 2025, supported by a €24m European Commission grant. Full commissioning is targeted for 2030, with initial hydrogen imports starting at Mazara del Vallo in Sicily.
