Snoqualmie Valley Cities Implement BESS Moratoriums and Public Hearings
Snoqualmie Valley cities have enacted a 12-month moratorium on battery energy storage systems (BESS) to develop regulatory codes. Public hearings are scheduled to gather community input and assess the impact of proposed BESS developments.

Snoqualmie Valley cities, including Snoqualmie, Duvall, North Bend, and Carnation, have passed a moratorium on battery energy storage systems (BESS) to allow time for regulatory development. Duvall will hold its public hearing on July 7, while Snoqualmie's is on July 13.
Each moratorium imposes a 12-month pause on BESS applications to facilitate local education and code formulation. Snoqualmie allocated $450,000 from its fund balance for expert analysis on stormwater, noise, and potential hazards from a proposed BESS by Jupiter Power.
The city has established a BESS working group co-chaired by a local anti-BESS nonprofit, with sessions open to the public. The ongoing opposition from the Snoqualmie Valley for Responsible Energy (SVRE) may influence the regulatory landscape.
