Snowy Hydro Completes Overhaul of Laverton Power Station in Victoria

GAS TURBINES & ENGINES

Snowy Hydro has completed an overhaul of its Laverton power station in Victoria, marking an Australian-first by replacing an aging gas turbine exhaust. This two-month project involved disassembling the 163 MW gas turbine, requiring more than 51,000 work hours.

The upgrade resets the turbine's operational life for another 1250 starts, equivalent to 20 years. Snowy Hydro operates four gas-fired power stations in Australia with a total capacity of 1947 MW, including Valley Power, Colongra, and the under-construction Kurri Kurri, which is expected to begin operations in late 2025.
