Social Circle Planning Commission Supports Data Center Development Proposal
The Social Circle Planning Commission has unanimously recommended city council approval for the annexation and rezoning of land intended for a data center complex spanning over 450 acres. This decision could pave the way for significant infrastructure and economic development in the area, contingent upon city council approval at their upcoming meeting.

The Social Circle Planning Commission endorsed requests for annexation, rezoning, and special-use permits for a data center complex on 450 acres on the southeast side of Fairplay Drive. The commission's unanimous recommendation includes a specific 123-acre parcel at 1402 Roy Malcom Road, slated for two buildings totaling 497,200 square feet.
The city council will consider these requests at a meeting on April 21, where public comments will be heard. Previous requests for other tracts were approved in November and September 2025, despite a moratorium on new data center proposals initiated afterward.
The current proposals are governed by new regulations established in January. There is an identified end user for the project, with construction potentially beginning this fall, contingent upon approval.
