Socorro Receives $610K for Grid Modernization with SEC and Nuvve
The City of Socorro has secured $610,000 from New Mexico's ECAM for a grid modernization project. This funding will enable the design of a 5 MW battery storage system, enhancing energy reliability and infrastructure resilience.

The City of Socorro has received $610,000 from the New Mexico Energy Conservation and Management Division (ECAM) for a grid modernization initiative. This project includes a Type 2 Grid Modernization effort that entails feasibility analysis, system design, and economic modeling, leading to a planned 5 MW / 20 MWh battery energy storage system.
The initiative aims to tackle challenges in rural electric systems, primarily focusing on outage duration and peak demand management. The project is structured in phases to mitigate risk and ensure scalability. It is expected to serve as a framework for similar initiatives across New Mexico, leveraging state funding for improved community energy resilience.
