SoftBank Sells 9.65% Stake in Boston Dynamics to Hyundai Motor Group
SoftBank has divested its final 9.65% stake in Boston Dynamics to Hyundai for approximately $325 million, refocusing on AI supercomputers. This strategic move allows SoftBank to concentrate its resources on developing AI infrastructure in Japan, particularly through new supercomputers CHIE-1 and CHIE-4.

SoftBank has exercised a sales option for its remaining 9.65% interest in Boston Dynamics, selling to Hyundai Motor Group for around $325 million. This sale grants Hyundai full control over Boston Dynamics, which has a valuation exceeding $22 billion.
Moving forward, SoftBank aims to allocate its capital towards AI infrastructure, specifically focusing on the development of supercomputers CHIE-1 and CHIE-4, built on Nvidia's DGX technology. This pivot is supported by partnerships with Microsoft extending into 2029.
The Tokyo Stock Exchange responded positively, with SoftBank's stock rising by 2.36% to 7,279 yen, reflecting an 8.77% increase over the past month. The success of the supercomputer projects will be crucial for SoftBank's position in the global AI market.
