Sona ChipIN Centre Inaugurated in Tamil Nadu to Advance Semiconductor Education
The Sona ChipIN Centre, launched under the Chips to Startup (C2S) programme, aims to foster semiconductor design expertise in India. With an investment of ₹100 million in Electronic Design Automation tools, the centre aims to produce 85,000 industry-ready professionals over the next five years.

The Sona ChipIN Centre, inaugurated at Sona College of Technology in Tamil Nadu, is part of the national Chips to Startup (C2S) programme, supported by MeitY. The centre features advanced Electronic Design Automation tools valued at ₹100 million, focusing on semiconductor design and VLSI research.
Over the next 24-36 months, the Centre aims to develop an indigenous 'Made in India' chip. It will also train students from various engineering disciplines, contributing to the goal of creating 85,000 professionals in chip design by 2027. This initiative positions India to enhance its semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, particularly as the country enters 3nm chip development.
