Sophia Space and Kepler Communications Partner for Orbital Computing Initiative
Sophia Space will deploy edge compute nodes on Kepler Communications satellites starting in late 2026. This partnership aims to leverage Kepler's optical data relay network to enhance modular, low-latency computing capabilities in space, enabling applications such as weather forecasting and surveillance.

Starting in late 2026, Sophia Space plans to deploy edge compute nodes on Kepler Communications satellites, marking a strategic partnership announced on April 13. This initiative aims to utilize Kepler's optical data relay network to establish a robust distributed computing infrastructure in orbit.
The collaboration will validate software and hardware integration, as well as manage distributed nodes at scale to support high-volume workloads across multiple spacecraft. Applications include global weather forecasting and space domain awareness.
Sophia Space secured $10 million in funding in February to expedite the development of its technologies. The partnership opens avenues for modular computing systems in challenging orbital conditions.
