South Africa Launches R100 Million Strategic Hydrogen Localisation Investment Facility at Wits University
Deputy President Mashatile will launch the R100 million Strategic Hydrogen Localisation Investment Facility at Wits University on February 27, 2026. On February 27, 2026, Deputy President Mashatile will officiate the launch of the R100 million Strategic Hydrogen Localisation Investment Facility at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. This initiative, funded by Air Liquide South Africa, aims to strengthen South Africa's research capabilities and local expertise in hydrogen technology.
The Wits-South Africa Hydrogen Localisation Initiative (Wits-SAHLI) will facilitate innovation and participation in the hydrogen value chain, establishing a modular pilot hydrogen plant on campus for applied research and industry collaboration. The event will feature leadership from Air Liquide, Wits University, and key stakeholders in the energy and education sectors.
