South Coast AQMD Launches WAIRE Mitigation Program with Initial Focus on ZE Vehicles
The WAIRE Mitigation Program aims to provide funding for emission reduction projects in warehouses. Key elements include support for zero-emission vehicles and infrastructure, with a simplified approach planned for the first year.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District (South Coast AQMD) is set to initiate the WAIRE Mitigation Program, focusing on funding zero-emission (ZE) vehicles and infrastructure for NOx and Diesel Particulate Matter reduction. The first year will prioritize support for Class 4-8 ZE vehicles, ZE off-road yard trucks, and publicly accessible charging/hydrogen stations, with application intake expected to start in August 2026.
Funding will not cover leased ZE vehicles or eTRU charging projects initially. Future considerations may include funding for Class 2b and Class 3 delivery vehicles and decommissioning diesel fueling infrastructure. The program's structure and eligibility criteria remain under evaluation, which could impact participation and effectiveness.
