South Korea's KF-21 Fighter Jet Achieves Key Test Flight Milestone
The KF-21 fighter jet's successful test flight showcases South Korea's advancements in indigenous defense capabilities. This program aims to produce 120 jets by 2032, enhancing the nation's defense posture and export potential.
The KF-21 fighter jet, South Korea's first domestically developed aircraft, successfully completed a test flight, demonstrating its air-to-ground capabilities. Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd. (KAI) is tasked with producing 120 units, with 40 set for delivery by 2028 and 80 more equipped with long-range missiles by 2032.
Currently, 20 jets are in final assembly at KAI's facility. The initiative, which began in 2001, aims to position South Korea among the top global defense powers, with potential exports to countries like the Philippines and Poland. The second production phase is critical for meeting export and operational goals amid concerns over potential delays.
