Southeast Asia Poised to Become Key Biofuel Exporter by 2030

HYDROGEN

Southeast Asia stands at the cusp of becoming a crucial player in the global biofuels market, with production capabilities anticipated to outstrip local demand significantly in the coming years. Ahmad Adly Alias, the Vice President of Refining Marketing and Trading at Petronas, highlighted this potential during the APPEC conference in Singapore. He projected that the region's sustainable aviation fuel capacity could soar to an impressive 4 million metric tons by 2030, positioning ASEAN as a viable exporter to markets such as Europe.

Asia's burgeoning biofuel sector is buoyed by its advantageous access to feedstocks and increasing production capabilities, coupled with a rapidly growing demand for biofuel transportation, estimated to reach approximately 250 million liters annually by 2030. This surge represents the fastest growth trajectory globally, presenting significant opportunities for the region. The initiative located in Pengerang, Johor, is set to initiate production by the latter half of 2028, further solidifying Southeast Asia's role in the evolving energy landscape.
