Southern Water to Enhance Community Engagement in Eastbourne Amid Odour Concerns
Southern Water plans to hold a meeting with Eastbourne residents at the end of May to address community concerns about odours from its wastewater treatment facility. The company is implementing monitoring initiatives to improve communication regarding hydrogen sulphide levels and future investments.

Southern Water will meet with residents of Sovereign Harbour and Langney Point in late May to discuss odour issues from its wastewater treatment plant. The company is increasing monitoring at ten sites in the network to better assess hydrogen sulphide levels.
Managing director John Penicud emphasized the need for improved accessibility through their website for reporting odour issues. MP Josh Babarinde is advocating for compensation for affected households and has prompted Southern Water to consider funding for local initiatives, including the reopening of the Splash Pad. Ongoing engagement efforts may enhance community relations but will require sustained follow-through.
