Space Force Implements Incremental Strategy for R2C2 Command and Control System
The Space Force is adopting an incremental approach to migrate orbital warfare systems to the R2C2 cloud-based platform. Established in 2023, R2C2 aims to enhance satellite responsiveness amid growing space threats. Challenges in transitioning legacy systems have delayed progress, prompting a retooling of the strategy, including hiring nontraditional software developers. The Space Force also plans to develop small maneuverable satellites under the RG-XX program, which will work in conjunction with R2C2.

The Space Force is implementing an incremental strategy for the Rapid Resilient Command and Control (R2C2) program, which seeks to migrate legacy and new orbital warfare systems to a cloud-based platform. Established in 2023, R2C2 is designed to enhance satellite responsiveness in a contested space environment.
Initial goals to onboard 15-25 legacy programs within two years faced challenges, leading to a reassessment of the approach. The Space Rapid Capabilities Office has hired Space Dynamics Laboratory as a lead systems integrator and increased software delivery cycles. Concurrently, the Space Force is developing small, maneuverable satellites under the RG-XX program to augment existing capabilities.
