Spain Mandates Low-Emission Zones; Drivers Must Obtain Environmental Labels

HYDROGEN

Spain is implementing Low Emission Zones (ZBEs) across cities, with a mandate for all municipalities over 50,000 inhabitants to establish them by 2023. To drive in these areas, vehicles must obtain an environmental label.

The Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has established four categories: Zero Emissions for fully electric and hydrogen vehicles, ECO for certain hybrids and compliant gas vehicles, B for older polluting cars, and A for vehicles that do not qualify for a sticker. Drivers can obtain stickers at local Correos offices or designated DGT locations, needing their vehicle registration and ID. The introduction of ZBEs aims to enhance air quality in urban areas by 2050.
