Spain's Data Centers and Battery Factories Lead Innovative Infrastructure Projects
Data centers and electric vehicle battery factories are at the forefront of Spain's innovative construction projects, supported by European funds and private investment. By 2026, significant advancements are expected in data center operations, driven by companies like Amazon and Microsoft, with around 130 projects identified in Spain.
The investment potential for technological projects in Spain and Portugal is estimated at €90 billion over the next decade. Key regions include Catalonia, Madrid, and Aragón, with ongoing construction of data centers aiming for rapid deployment to attract tenants.
Challenges include regulatory hurdles and infrastructure development. Major construction firms like ACS, Acciona, and Sacyr are involved, with ACS building four data centers and planning over 1,500 MW for hyperscalers. In the battery factory sector, Volkswagen’s plant in Sagunto is anticipated to begin production by late 2026, alongside Stellantis’s factory in Zaragoza, positioning Spain for strategic autonomy in automotive electrification.
