Spakona Secures ATLA Contract for UAV AI Development with Dodwell BMS
Spakona Inc. has been awarded a three-year contract worth approximately 503.5 million yen (USD 3.2 million) by Japan's ATLA for developing AI systems for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This project aims to enhance collaborative Manned-Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T) capabilities vital to future defense operations.
Spakona Inc. will collaborate with Dodwell BMS on a three-year project to develop flight demonstration AI for UAVs, funded by a contract from Japan's Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Agency (ATLA) worth around 503.5 million yen. The research will involve simulations and real-world testing to optimize AI decision-making models for multi-UAV operations, set to deliver results by May 2029.
This initiative supports ATLA's objective to advance UAV capabilities alongside manned aircraft, enhancing operational safety and efficiency. International partnerships, such as Japan's collaboration with the U.S. Department of Defense, further bolster efforts in integrating AI technologies into defense systems, addressing critical challenges in automated decision-making.
