Sparwood Begins Construction on $30 Million Wastewater Treatment Project
The District of Sparwood has initiated construction on a $30 million wastewater treatment project, expected to finish by September 2027. Industra Construction Corporation will replace an aging oxidation ditch with a secondary treatment process to enhance wastewater quality and accommodate future population growth. Funding includes $8 million in grants and $20 million in borrowing. The project, prioritized in 2022, addresses community needs stemming from residential growth in various neighborhoods.

The District of Sparwood broke ground on a $30 million wastewater treatment project on January 27, 2026, with Industra Construction Corporation responsible for the construction, set for completion by September 2027. The new secondary treatment process will replace a 1968 oxidation ditch.
The project aims to improve wastewater quality released into the Elk River and support population growth, particularly in the Cherrywood, Whiskey Jack, and Westwood neighborhoods. The council secured $8 million in grants and will borrow $20 million to fund the project, which became a priority in 2022 after initial needs were identified in 2008.
