SPEDA Clarifies Fiber Hut Misconceptions Amid AI Data Center Rumors
SPEDA refutes claims linking a fiber hut in Pulaski to an AI data center, emphasizing the facility’s actual function. Miscommunication highlights the need for accurate information dissemination in economic development discussions.

SPEDA President/CEO Chris Girdler addressed misconceptions regarding a fiber hut in the Valley Oak Commerce Park, clarifying it is not an AI data center. The fiber optic center functions solely as an internet supply hub, lacking any data storage capabilities.
SPEDA received over $300,000 from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for its construction, which was necessitated by infrastructure changes and damage to the previous hub. Girdler criticized the reckless spread of misinformation on social media, stating that the facility's size and financial backing are not comparable to those of an AI data center. The ongoing discourse underscores the importance of accurate communication in community development initiatives.
