Sperra Advances 3D Concrete Printing for Marine Energy in Bergen
Sperra is developing 3D concrete printing technology to support marine renewable energy infrastructure, backed by $5 million from NYSERDA. The initiative aims to innovate offshore energy applications, enhancing local manufacturing capabilities.

Sperra is focusing on 3D concrete printing to create components for offshore energy, including solar and wave energy systems. The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has provided approximately $5 million in funding for this initiative, which supports the development of marine infrastructure.
Sperra operates from a repurposed GE facility in Bergen, having taken over operations in 2024 after GE ceased activities in 2022. The company collaborates with local organizations like Heidelberg Materials and Re:Build Optimation Technology, LLC.
Modifications to the facility allow for robotic precision in concrete deposition, aimed at improving manufacturing processes for subsea energy storage. Testing of concrete beams is conducted at the University at Buffalo to ensure compliance with established standards.
