A fire at a recycling plant in Dayton, Texas, was reported around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, potentially ignited by improperly disposed lithium batteries. The fire was extinguished by Wednesday afternoon, after 14 fire departments responded, and a shelter-in-place order was lifted.

Spring Fire Department Captain Tim Weiman emphasized the risks associated with lithium batteries, stating they can cause fires if damaged or improperly disposed of. Residents are advised not to place these batteries in household trash or curbside recycling and to utilize safe disposal programs available at fire stations and many hardware stores.
