Sri Lanka Advances Hydrographic Capabilities with New Charts and Training Initiatives
Sri Lanka Navy Hydrographic Service has produced 27 Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) within three years, expanding maritime coverage to 115,733.35 square kilometers. This achievement enhances national security, supports maritime trade, and positions Sri Lanka as a key player in the Indian Ocean region.

The Sri Lanka Navy Hydrographic Service (SLNHS) has expanded its ENC coverage to 115,733.35 square kilometers, representing 21.5% of the nation's maritime jurisdiction. This growth follows the establishment of the SLNHS on December 14, 2023, and the enactment of the National Hydrographic Act in 2024, which strengthened hydrographic governance.
SLNHO's revenue from ENC production totaled USD 278,645.82 and is projected to exceed USD 300,000 by 2026. A two-day training program for university students is scheduled for June 23-24, 2026, to promote hydrographic skills. The SLNHO's independence in hydrographic matters has reduced reliance on foreign assistance, enhancing national preparedness.
