SSE's Ferrybridge 150MW Battery Storage System Fully Operational in West Yorkshire
SSE's Ferrybridge Battery Energy Storage System in West Yorkshire has commenced full operations. The 150MW/300MWh project is situated on the site of the decommissioned 2GW Ferrybridge power station. It stores electricity for up to two hours at full output, catering to the peak demand of nearly 250,000 homes. The project enhances Britain's grid flexibility and energy security.

SSE's Ferrybridge Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in West Yorkshire is now fully operational, marking the completion of one of Britain's largest battery storage projects. The 150MW/300MWh system is located on the site of the former 2GW Ferrybridge power station, decommissioned in 2016.
It can store electricity for up to two hours at full output, meeting peak demand for nearly 250,000 homes. The construction began in August 2023, involving 136 battery units supplied by Sungrow and a 132kV transformer, led by contractor OCU Energy. The system will support the UK's electricity network by balancing supply and demand.
